A Mindful Adventure at Peace in a Pod Elementary

Writer's picture: Taran CollisTaran Collis

This week, I had the absolute joy of visiting Peace in a Pod Elementary, where I shared my book Dinosaurs Have Big Feelings Too with some of the most curious and thoughtful young minds I’ve ever met.

We started with a lively reading of Rex’s story—a dinosaur with BIG emotions who discovers how to manage his feelings with the Finger Hold Practice. The students loved learning how each finger connects to an emotion like anger, worry, or sadness. Their enthusiasm during the hands-on practice was contagious!

“This was my favorite thing we’ve done this year!” – Noah, age 8✨ “Now I know how to help myself when I feel mad.” – Ellie, age 7

One of my favorite moments was watching the kids help each other practice holding their fingers. It was a beautiful reminder of how mindfulness not only helps us but also brings us closer together.

Thank you, Peace in a Pod Elementary, for welcoming me so warmly. Your commitment to nurturing the whole child—mind, body, and spirit—is inspiring. It was an honor to share this adventure with you!
